I discovered your Comic Book Gorillarama webpage a couple of months ago and fell in love with it. I look forward to future posts here at Gorilla Men.
Always nice to hear some words of encouragement! Unfortunately Gorillarama has been pretty static for some time now - since the addition of the epsom galleries I am hard pressed to find more gorilla covers I do not already have. There's still much to be said about Marvel simian characters but alas I have not had the time or desire to focus on it. I hope you will tune in regularly for upcoming posts - once the galleries are well stocked and the superficial aspects are up to snuff I will have lots to share about the underappreciated Gorilla Men. In the meantime seek out Bob Burn's website as well as Charles Gemora - Bob's been a guardian of gorilla film history for some time now (and a gorilla film performer!) and Charlie was one of the greats.
ciao Mark
Hi Mark,
I"m a "Gorillaman" that just found your site. Mine is www.hollywoodgorilla.com You've got a great page, and thanks for remembering the good old guys! Steve
There are several gorillas you seem to have missed in the Biography section of your website, COMIC BOOK GORILLARAMA. One is Karmak, "The Beast-Bomb of Gotham City," who appeared on the cover of a DETECTIVE COMICS magazine (the cover is, however, in your cover section under D).
The second gorilla is King Krypton, who was the first actual gorilla to appear in a Superman comic (even before the second Super-Ape, a Kryptonian lab animal, appeared in ACTION COMICS). In a bizarre twist of fate, this gorilla turned out to be a Kryptonian scientist who had been transformed into a gorilla by a malfunctioning evolution ray and was only restored to normal when he was exposed to Kryptonite. The third gorilla is Giganta, better known as "the Gorilla Girl," an ape who was transformed into an Amazonian human woman through an evolutionizer, an invention of an aging scientist called Professor Zool. She first appeared in WONDER WOMAN (first series) #9.
I was wondering if Corrigan played the gorilla in CHARLIE CHAN AT THE CIRCUS.
Hi, Mark!
I didn't think anyone else cared about this stuff but me. I am Movie Mike, have been collecting 16mm film since '73, and I have a small concentration of gorilla-suit films that I have used for a Gorilla Suit Film Festival that was a big hit at the Lunacon SF Convention a few years ago. I use Robot Monster--Nabonga--Ch 1 of Beatty Serial--episodes of Wonder Woman and Beverly Hillbillies (in which we get to see George Barrows in and out of his GS. Send me your e-mail address and I will send you copies of the posters I have used. Did a GSFF Special last year in a pub for National Gorilla Suit Day in honor of Don Martin. Oh, yes, I bought a GS on E-Bay for $46 and do wear it when hosting this show... Mike |
